It’s time to sell our family home in Tara Hills. Tara Hills is a neighborhood of mid-century homes located in unincorporated San Pablo and Pinole. It is a neighborhood where families hang onto their homes for generations and new friends can be made and kept for years. It’s also where great home values can be found in the ever-increasing Bay Area real estate market. The house is ideally located just 25 miles from San Francisco, 12 miles from Berkeley, 17 miles from Oakland and Marin County, and about 30 miles from Napa/Sonoma wine country. Many grocery stores, shops, and restaurants are located within a few miles. Our favorite restaurants nearby are Pear Street Bistro in Pinole, Pinole Creek Cafe and Mel’s Original Diner.
Several parks are also located close by. The San Pablo Reservoir was our favorite spot for picnicking and fishing. Briones Regional Park has over 6,000 acres for hiking and camping and Point Pinole Regional Shoreline has wonderful views of San Francisco Bay and Mount Tamalpais.
We have owned the house since 1961 and have updated it throughout the last 10 years with great care. Over $75,000 has been spent on improvements. With the aim of entertaining family and friends, the kitchen space was opened up in 2008 and additional cabinet and counter space were added, including a granite peninsula for additional barstool seating. New stainless steel appliances were installed at that time along with dual-paned windows and new interior and exterior doors. Both the main bathroom and master bath were also remodeled at that time.
In June 2016, the kitchen was updated with a new tile floor and new light fixtures. Additionally, the master bathroom was remodeled again with new cabinets, sinks, mirrors, lighting, toilet, shower, and floor tile. The guest bathroom was also updated with a new cabinet, sink, mirror and lighting. The original hardwood floors have been refinished for the new owners and the house is newly painted inside and out. New baseboards, light fixtures, and fireplace tiles were also installed and the low maintenance landscaping was updated. The house is in turnkey condition and has never looked better!
Our hope is that the new owners will love the house as much as we have. The house was the regular gathering place for our large extended family and we will all miss it. We take with us many memories from learning to play baseball in the spacious backyard to a seemingly infinite number of family and holiday celebrations. A walkway to Tara Hills elementary school is across the street and two generations of my family simply crossed the street to attend school or use the playground, basketball courts, and athletic fields. It is ideally located for a family with young or active children. They will become familiar with the tune of the ice cream truck passing through the neighborhood as it has for over 40 years. Pictures are nice but you have to visit the house to see how great your potential new home could be.
